Emma Gray and Bill, 1943

I had the exceeding good fortune to be born of these two, E.G. and Bill. They fed, loved and educated me. They set me on the track to the good life.

I stumbled off the track in 1968, started chasing shadows that summer. Since then, In addition to farm-laborer and newspaper photographer my occupational incarnations include dishwasher, janitor, retail photo clerk, plumber, HVAC repairman, auto mechanic, CAT scan technologist and computer worker (whatever it takes to buy film.) After 35 years in the darkroom I am firmly on the road to understanding how to print black and white.

Photos for me are studies of time, light, loss, longing and the nature of change. They are my heart and memory.
