33 years later


I asked candidate Toscano whether he'd support "scenic river" designation for the Rivanna River in Charlottesville and he sounded genuinely enthusiastic.

Key to improving water quality is self interest. We need people in the water, by the water, on the water, recreating, becoming aware of this resource.

I agree with you on the self interest comment. I know that my habit of inline skating along the river is a significant part of why I'm so interested in its health. Otherwise, out of sight, out of mind. Rivanna Conservation Society is talking about this as necessary also, not sure if they have any concrete plans for it though. I'd like to see a little rental business like what James River Runners has going. I know a lot of Cville people drive a half hour to get on the James. Why not five minutes (or no drive at all) to get on the Rivanna? Once the dam is gone, of course.
