broken connection

between the electors and the elected. Palmyra, Virginia. Thousands of Fluvanna County voters petition their government. They petitioned twice, to no avail.

This image turned out great. It really captures the mood of the room that night.

I still can't wrap my head around what I witnessed. A municipality turning its back on a petition with 2200+ citizen signatures because of a technicality? A group of county supervisors allowing themselves to be pushed into doing so by their attorney, when they were well within their discretionary power to listen to the will of the people?

It's the year 2009 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Four beautiful words for Fluvanna County: Do the Right Thing.
