Time, time, hear the bells chime Over the harbor and the city Time, one more vodka and lime To help paralyze that tiny little tick, tick, tick, tick- The Pretenders
Even your wife and kids Could be gone next year And with what you have left Youll be forever under pressure To support her And a lover who looks strangely Like time the avenger- The Pretenders
Now launch the small ship, now as the body dies and life departs, launch out, the fragile soul in the fragile ship of courage, the ark of faith with its store of food and little cooking pans and change of clothes, upon the flood's black waste.-D.H. Lawrence
Tell them they should have made the copy blocks bigger!?and reduced all those Manets, Monets, and Renoirs to the size of wildlife stamps!-Tom Wolfe, The Painted Word
When we were children this was our absolute favorite place name. Ah! Juveniles will be juvenile. Watch out Bumpass, the Charlottesville-Albemarle tax refugees are headed your way!
We interrupt our regular programming, day of rest, to bring you this important announcement:
PEPSI IS THE OFFICIAL SOFT DRINK OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA!
I wonder if the inverse is true, is University of Virginia the official University of Pepsi? Was there money involved? Who benefits from the expenditure of the hypothetical funds?
The news comes my way via the Spring 2007 University of Virginia Magazine, page 44. Searched UVA's website to learn more of this exciting academical development. The only pertinent return from the search was an editorial from the Cavalier Daily dated 8/30/2000
Politically correct speech is tiresome. The romantic description prevalent in years past was tiresome as well. Too bad the measure for language can't be "what word is simplest and most effective."
Park Lane Free Will Baptist Church This church began life as a barn on a farm in the Fry's Spring neighborhood of Charlottesville, Virginia. It's origin evident in the agricultural v. ecclesiastical outline of the roof. Three congregations have started here. Christianity, has roots in a stable. Fitting that people of faith gather in this unassuming beautiful building.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.- Matthew 18:20

Malcolm Holcombe is at Gravity Lounge tonight. I don't have any shorthand to adequately describe Malcolm. He is a singer. He is a songwriter. He is a creative genius. On a good day he might do better than that. Listen.
At City Council Monday night it was mentioned that Mayor Brown is a fan of "The Wire". Mayor Brown is a Holcombe fan as well. World class taste!
"It became apparent with bikes, walkers, and dogs off leash that we need to provide people with some direction to stay to the right," explains Svetz, citing several incidents in which loose dogs toppled bikers." Mike Svetz
Sophie, not a scofflaw, heeds the words of Mike Svetz, walking on the right in skunk park.
There is a spirit of volunteerism crucial to a City. Neighbors show consideration to one another. Underlying the voluntary effort and cooperation are a web of laws. A safety net. Occasionally the laws are enforced, when there is a violation too large to ignore. Law is like art. Thousands of hours are spent creating the letter of the law, the code, the ordinances. And then, the body of law, the finished work, is ignored.
I find it a peculiar sensation to arrive in this country and be categorically dropped into the demographics of ?other?. At the same time, there are so many members of this demographic that ?otherness? has become a source of galvanization. - James Sham
Cooper, Smith, Cartwright. The last names the only reminders of obsolete occupations. In the darkroom for the coming month, making paper prints without photoshop. Gasp! Practicing my dead avocation. Revelateur.
