Brian's ladder

After a decade in the Woolen Mills my friend and neighbor Brian sought greener, quieter pastures. He wanted a road without cars and a skyline without street lights. He found same, nestled into the Southwestern Mountains, north of town. Brian's ladder stayed behind, frozen in the snow. The snow melted three days ago. I didn't know exactly where Brian lived, but I knew his house was along this rural road. Left the ladder on the side of the road. He found it.

My evening bike loop takes me past this scene in twilight. What you can't see, the herd of deer grazing.

Lafayette Park

WASHINGTON--Four years ago I had a run in with the Secret Service for taking a picture from Lafayette Park, looking toward the White House.
Since that time security perimeter around the White House has been extended.
I did not retake the "offending" photo this year, I was afraid.

...and there is no health in us.

I've been reading old deeds. Fascinating to see the promises made, never kept. I suppose that successors in title fail to check the old records. Fail to study what they were to do or not to do.

We have left undone those things which we ought to have done;
And we have done those things which we ought not to
have done...
